MAY 28: OPRY CELEBRATES THE BAKERSFIELD SOUND

In May, the Opry celebrates another distinctly American style: the Bakersfield Sound. Rising out of California dance halls in the late 1950s and ’60s, it pushed back against the polished Nashville sound with honky-tonk energy and a little rock ’n’ roll edge—thanks to artists like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. With that signature twang running through the night’s performances, this show celebrates the unmistakable sound that redefined country music.
