History Made Daily

Artist Information

Country music has been shaped time and time again on the Grand Ole Opry stage. In its 94-year history, the show has not just been a witness to the genre’s biggest moments — it’s been the catalyst.

Bluegrass was born during an early Opry show at Ryman Auditorium. Banjoist Earl Scruggs and guitarist Lester Flatt had just joined Bill Monroe’s band, and their set that evening introduced a new genre to the world, one filled with high-energy sounds and instrumental breakdowns.

The Opry was also responsible for the genesis for one of country music’s most beloved couples. On the night of his Opry debut, Johnny Cash met June Carter backstage and was instantly smitten.

Today, the Opry remains a cultural institution, attracting distinguished guests well beyond the realm of country music, from Paul McCartney to Bill Murray to Pharrell Williams. On no other stage will you see this many rare appearances, surprising collaborations, and you-had-to-be-there moments.

At any given Opry show, you could see tomorrow’s next big thing land her debut, two superstars surprise the crowd with a duet, or an artist be honored with an invitation to join country music’s greatest family. There’s no other place like it.
