Artist Information
Charley Crockett has spent his life in constant motion, defying odds and fearlessly chasing his dreams until the San Benito, Texas, native found his place as one of the most prolific songwriters in all of music. With the release of Clovis, his 17th studio album since 2015 and first with Atlantic Outpost, Crockett reckons with his past, along with that of country music and rock and roll. Crockett recorded Clovis with producer Shooter Jennings, at the historic Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico, where Buddy Holly recorded most of his groundbreaking catalog in the 1950s. “I felt like there was a lot of unfinished business in that studio,” Crockett says.
Clovis is Crockett’s fourth LP since March 2025 and comes on the heels of his three-part Sagebrush Trilogy that included the Grammy-nominated Dollar a Day — the second Grammy nod of a career built upon tenacity and grit. His “Gulf & Western” sound was fashioned after years of street busking in New Orleans or the New York City subways, jumping trains from one town to another, and nearly losing it all in brushes with the law. Instead, he has 17 studio albums to his name, topped bills on venerable stages, and graced the screen on the likes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Austin City Limits, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! As Crockett laments when the Clovis tune “Country Music” hits its crescendo, “There’s a million dollar highway that keeps on calling me. It ain’t ever gonna make me rich, and I ain’t exactly free.”
