Ruby Amanfu is a Ghana-born, Nashville-raised Recording Artist, Producer, and GRAMMY, Soul Train and International Folk Music nominated Songwriter. Ruby has written and recorded music since her teens, signing her first record deal at age 16 and releasing her first album at age 18. To date, Ruby has released 12 critically acclaimed solo albums, and her songs have appeared in shows such as “The Morning Show,” “Station 19,” “Little Fires Everywhere,” "Love is Blind," "Pretty Little Liars," and in films such as "The Secret Life of Bees" and “The Photograph.”
As a Songwriter, Ruby’s accolades include co-writing two GRAMMY Song of the Year nominations - "Hard Place” for the artist H.E.R. and “A Beautiful Noise” for artists Alicia Keys and Brandi Carlile. Ruby has created music for 6 seasons of the popular series, The Chosen - singing the theme song and writing and recording original vocal melodies that can be heard throughout each episode of the show. Ruby can also be seen in two episodes of the acclaimed television series Nashville, in which she played herself and performed her own original music.
Ruby thrives as both a solo recording artist and as a collaborator. Notable duets include “Just Like Saturday” with Allison Russell, “How Do We Get There From Here” with Amy Grant, and “Room on the Porch” with Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo' on the Grammy-winning duo TajMo's acclaimed sophomore album of the same name. The album’s unifying title track was born from a phrase that Ruby brought into the writing session—“There’s room on the porch for everyone.” The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Albums chart, and the song earned an International Folk Music Award nomination for Song of the Year this year.
Ruby created and recorded the operatic vocals that appear on Beyoncé's song, “Don’t Hurt Yourself” on the Grammy-winning album, Lemonade. She also appears widely on Norah Jones’ album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, and alongside Jack White on the White Stripes singer-guitarist's solo LPs, Blunderbuss and Lazaretto, highlighted by a performance of their collaboration, "Love Interruption" at the 55th Grammy Awards.
Outside of her vast musical career, Ruby is an avid cook, gardener, wife and stepmother.
