Monte Warden and The Wagoneers
Artist Information
On March 2nd, 2026, Monte Warden and The Wagoneers will release “Doghouse Flowers,” their first new music in decades.
Since the 1980s, Monte Warden and The Wagoneers have remained an integral part of Austin’s musical backbone and narrative. The band earned early recognition for a sound that blended honky-tonk tradition with punk energy and stellar songwriting. The Wagoneers were among the first artists to operate in the space that would later be called Americana. Their influence has long been acknowledged, with Billboard famously writing, “If The Clash had been a country band, they’d have been The Wagoneers.”
Recorded live in a single session at Austin's legendary Arlyn Studios,“Doghouse Flowers” is a rockabilly rave-up delivered as only this band can. This recording is sharp-edged and animated, delivering equal parts fun, mayhem, and rebellious rock-and-roll. Warden’s voice carries the weight of his background, gritty and confident, and the band tears through this scorcher of a tune with swagger. The electrifying melody follows Warden’s vocals without restraint. It’s country music made by veteran musicians who have spent their careers onstage honing their craft for live audiences, with Warden’s infectious energy lighting up crowds.
Long cited as influencing pillars of Americana such as The Mavericks, Whiskeytown, and Uncle Tupelo, the band is releasing music for the first time to the format they’re credited for trailblazing. Music critic Margaret Moser of The Austin Chronicle referred to them as “Fathers of Americana,” while veteran journalist Chet Flippo dubbed The Wagoneers “the greatest honky-tonk band that ever was.” The Dallas Morning News went further, calling the group “a mythic and legendary band,” a description that feels especially apt now, as the Wagoneer myth turns tangible again with this release.
Although “Doghouse Flowers” marks their first release under The Wagoneers name in almost 40 years, Warden has enjoyed a multifaceted career; having sold millions of records as a songwriter and receiving universal critical acclaim for his innovative jazz-flavored project, The Dangerous Few. The Wagoneers’ influence continues to be felt throughout all aspects of country and Americana to this day. This release adds an important new entry to their legacy, building on work that has long bridged rockabilly roots and honky-tonk tradition. “Doghouse Flowers” captures the energy and abandon that have defined The Wagoneers’ legendary live shows, unlike anything else currently coming out of the genre.
“Doghouse Flowers,” written by Monte and Brandi Warden, produced by Brandi Warden and Mas Palermo, and recorded and mixed by Grammy winner, Jacob Sciba will be available on March 2, 2026 on all major streaming platforms.
