Food Network's "Ace of Cakes" Delivers Opry 85th Birthday Cake On Show To Air September 16

Nashville, TN — September 15, 2010

As the Grand Ole Opry prepares to celebrate the re-opening of the Grand Ole Opry House just in time for its 85th Birthday, one of America's most popular TV series is putting the icing on the cake. The Food Network's Ace of Cakes will present an extraordinary one-of-a-kind Opry birthday cake on its show airing Sept. 16.  The cake was delivered in person on the stage of the Opry in June by head chef Duff Goldman and was designed and created by Goldman and staff at Charm City Bakery in Baltimore, MD.

The Opry is scheduled to return to the Opry House after having been displaced by this spring's floods on Tues., Sept. 28 with performances by Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels Band, Diamond Rio, Jimmy Dickens, Martina McBride, Del McCoury Band, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Mel Tillis, Josh Turner, Keith Urban, and more. The show will officially celebrate its 85th during its annual Birthday Bash Oct. 8 & 9. The Bash will feature three Opry shows including performances by Trace Adkins, Crystal Gayle, Del McCoury Band, Dolly Parton, and more; a salute to country comedy; a free Opry Plaza Birthday Party; and more.

About Ace of Cakes
Chef Duff Goldman - Shaping cakes with drill saws and blowtorches, and staffing his bakery with fellow rock musicians, he's not your typical baker. However, he's one of the most sought-after decorative cake makers in the country. Every week at Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Duff and his team of artists try to meet the demands of creating up to 20 cakes a week, some of which take up to 29 hours to build! From a tilted Dr. Seuss-like seven-tiered wedding cake to an almost perfect replica of Wrigley Field, Duff can build it. The show airs Thursdays at 10:00 pm ET on the Food Network.
