Some of George Jones’ Biggest Fans to Salute the Hall of Famer During This Week’s Opry Country Classics
Nashville, TN — September 21, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - (Sept. 21, 2009) One of country music’s all-time most renowned voices, Grand Ole Opry star and Country Music Hall of Famer, George Jones, will be the Spotlight Artist for the new show Opry Country Classics this Thursday, September 24, as some of his biggest fans take the stage to salute the man behind such classics as “White Lightning,” “She Thinks I Still Care,” “The Grand Tour,” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Among those appearing in addition to Jones will be Jimmy Dickens, the night’s host Vince Gill, Jamey Johnson, Lorrie Morgan, and Tanya Tucker. Here’s what some of the artists saluting Jones have to say about the man and his music:
Vince Gill: “If anyone were to ask me to define country music, I would tell them to listen to a George Jones record.”
Jamey Johnson: “George Jones has always been a hero of mine. I grew up listening to him and to be sharing the stage, honoring such a legend is just humbling and exciting.”
Lorrie Morgan: “I'm happy we are still saluting the greats of country music while they are here with us. George is truly a great singer and an inspiration to all of us who still truly love country music.”
Tanya Tucker: “… His life is like a country song; he's lived through the ups and downs. --From the top of a mountain to bottom of the bottle and now on a comfortable plateau. He’s lived through it, and we live through it with him. George Jones will always be tall timber to me and the ultimate king of country music. Anything he sings is my favorite, because when I’m in a foreign country and hear him it's a spiritual experience!”
Tanya Tucker will sign copies of her latest CD, “My Turn,” in The Opry Shop from 9:00-9:45 PM immediately following the show.
