Grand Ole Opry to Honor U.S. Military with Summer Salute

Season Kicks Off With All-American Salute Signature Shows May 25 & 26
Nashville, TN — May 15, 2007    


NASHVILLE, Tenn. - (May 7, 2007) -  The Grand Ole Opry® presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® is set to honor members of the United States military this summer with an Opry Summer Salute Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekends.  The Salute featuring special shows, recognition of military personnel, and special offers, kicks off Fri., May 25 and Sat., May 26 with All-American Salute Signature Shows featuring tributes to the red, white, and blue on the Opry stage and military performances and displays in the Opry Plaza. Among the artists scheduled to appear on the Memorial Day Weekend Signature Shows are Joe Diffie, Hal Ketchum, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Mark Chesnutt, Del McCoury Band, Porter Wagoner, and more.

Other events scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend include:
• Presentation of colors by the Army on Friday night and the Air Force and Marine Corps on Saturday night
• The first free Opry Plaza Party of the summer season May 26 featuring Mandy Barnett and opening act Freedom Navy Band Mid-South (Millington, TN)
• Military equipment displays from several branches of the service

The Opry’s Summer Salute will continue with a Soldier Salute presented by the Grand Ole Opry® and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® each week. Beginning May 21, persons can submit salutes to the soldiers close to them to be read live at Opry performances throughout the summer.

Opry shows are every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night. Military personnel should mention code MIL10X when making reservations at 1-800-SEE-OPRY (733-6779). Opry performances can be seen and heard each week on the American Forces Television and Radio Networks.
