"Grand Ole Opry Live" Ready to Duke it Out at this Year's City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge
Nashville, TN — April 19, 2006
Competition will be stiff this year as country music’s hottest stars compete in the Lynnco Custom Cycles 16th Annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge,
Thursday, June 8 at 1:00 pm at Nashville’s Greer Stadium.
Grand Ole Opry Live has signed on again to take on
After MidNite with Blair Garner for its third year in a row. The Opry vows it will be a fight to the finish and promises an afternoon of softball, pranks and fun. Tickets are $17 and available through Ticketmaster at (615)255-9600 or at ticketmaster.com. The all-star line up will be announced in the coming weeks.
(Tickets are no longer available for this event.)“I’m proud to be the Title Sponsor of this year’s annual City of Hope Softball Challenge,” stated Lynn Jones, owner of Lynnco Custom Cycles. “This is my opportunity to give back and to encourage others to do the same.”
Anxious for a taste of sweet revenge, Team Captain Blair Garner issued the following statement: "We learned last year about some of the sneaky tricks those Opry folks will use to win. I'm not saying they were cheating. But then again, I'm not saying Cledus T. Judd is a handsome man. (He clearly doesn't know how much more flattering an After MidNite jersey would have been than that filthy and tattered, awful old Opry jersey he wore.) No sour grapes here about our loss last year. Quite the contrary…Just 'cause I hope our team beats the pants off of those cheaters, er, uh. . . I mean, worthy competitors. That doesn't prove anything does it?"
Still reveling in their victory, the Opry’s Pete Fisher stated: "We learned at last year's blowout that our competitors don't call themselves "After MidNite" for nothin'. It was obvious from the butt-whoopin' they endured that Blair Garner and crew didn't start training until After MidNite, and didn’t land anyone on base until After MidNite! Some have even said Blair slept through the game and didn't wake up until After MidNite. We’re excited to celebrate a second straight Opry victory until After MidNite or until the celebration wakes Blair up, whichever comes first. And as for a little dust on the Opry's uniforms-- that's what happens to jerseys when you do more in them than just sleep."
