Question

I am looking for the song “Christmas Carol.” I don’t know who sang it or what album it might be on.

Answer

Dear Robert,

I’m answering your question about a Christmas tune in honor of fall having descended upon us. The holidays will be here before we know it, and I have my copy of Mary Chapin Carpenter’s holiday CD COME DARKNESS, COME LIGHT at the ready as soon as November arrives. While I’m sure there are a number of “Christmas Carols” out there, I have a hunch you’re inquiring about the tune by Skip Ewing about an orphan girl who calls herself Christmas Carol while searching for a home. You can find the song online as a download, or you can order Ewing’s holiday CD FOLLOWING YONDER STAR, which includes the cut. You may or may not be familiar with Ewing’s name, but you are familiar with his work, I’m sure. He’s penned tunes recorded by Trisha Yearwood, George Strait, and Willie Nelson, to name a few, and he was a CMA Song of the Year nominee for the Collin Raye favorite “Love, Me”. I have always been partial to Ewing’s vocals, myself, including his highest-charitng single, “It’s You Again,” back in 1989. Where, oh where, Robert, does the time go?

Thanks for asking,
