When Stormy Weather, a country character in her own right, watched the first episode of ABC’s NASHVILLE, she knew it was just the kind of show on which she wanted to dish online at opry.com each week. “Fashion. Young love. Old enemies. The potential for a catfight at every turn. Music born in the songwriting rooms of Music City. What’s not to love?” Stormy asks. Visit this page for Stormy’s unbridled thoughts on each episode as the series takes off and as we’re all introduced to Rayna James, Juliette Barnes, and the rest of the characters that make up NASHVILLE.

Episode three’s summary promised intense drama from the get-go: Rayna learns her family is facing financial ruin. Strumpet Juliette asks Deacon to write and tour with her exclusively. Juliette’s mother re-enters her life. ABC’s Nashville heats up!
Mama drama–and plenty of it–dominates this episode. Gasp! We learn that Rayna’s mother cheated on daddy Lamar with, of all things, a musician! What could be worse? Like mother like daughter, perhaps? Meanwhile, Juliette’s mama, Jolene, is like a bad penny; she just keeps turning up. Good thing Juliette has that fancy new perfume because her life really stinks at times. Stormy asks, “Where is Juliette’s grandmother? And what kind of woman names her little girl after one of the most famous vixens ever to grace a country song?”
If things weren’t bad enough for Rayna (she can’t sell out arenas anymore and Juliette is on the verge of dethroning the country queen), she learns that she and husband Teddy have financial woes. Girlfriend needs money, and she needs it bad. Really bad but not bad enough that she’ll take a cool half million from her cold-hearted daddy Lamar. It’s Teddy to the rescue.
Teddy heads down to the credit union where he used to work but leaves faster than a Taylor Swift single can climb the charts. Will the audit reveal Teddy’s dirty laundry and hang it on the clothesline for all the world to see? We can count on it!
Under the telescope that is celebrity fame and fortune, Teddy gets a double dose of public scrutiny. He’s married to a major country music star, and he’s one of Music City’s mayoral candidates. There’s a long line of folks waiting to pounce on Teddy’s misfortune. Can Rayna’s daddy rescue Teddy, Rayna and their adorable daughters from the jaws of public humiliation? Will Rayna let him? Meanwhile, where does Rayna’s sister Tandy land amid this mess? Is Tandy the real power broker, the master puppeteer in this crazy dysfunctional family? There’s more to this girl than meets the eye, for certain.
Rayna’s in a tight spot but as bad as things get (did Stormy mention things are bad?), she’s still got Daphne and Maddie, her adorably talented daughters who unknowingly pour salt on mama’s wounds by performing Juliette’s song “Telescope” in the school talent show. Will the darling duo get discovered and save the family from financial ruin? Stranger things have happened.
Just when we think things are at their worst, Juliette snatches a bottle of nail polish down at the store. As Stormy mentioned before, like mother, like daughter. Lapse in judgement or has the weight of her world finally driven Juliette to steal? Is it a cry for attention? Will Deacon come to her rescue? Where will those cell phone photos, which captured Juliette’s fateful deed, appear first?
Ah, “Telescope.” Maybe someone should write a song called “Microscope” because that’s what these ladies are living under. Stormy predicts that Rayna and Juliette are about to learn just what a small town Nashville really is.
