Happy Thanksgiving!
Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gill will host the America’s Opry Weekend Thanksgiving Special this week and wants to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
The radio program will celebrate Thanksgiving and the beginning of a music-filled holiday season, with Vince showcasing some of this year’s biggest hits about life, home, and thanks. The show will also contain cuts from Vince’s latest album, Guitar Slinger, and several of his all-time holiday favorites, including some he’ll be singing with his wife Amy Grant on the couple’s 2011 “Twelve Days of Christmas” tour.
The singer, songwriter, and musician just marked 20 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry alongside his family and some of his best friends in country music. He’s entering his fifth year as a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He’s sold more than 26 million records, and has 20 Grammys on his shelf— more than any other male artist in country music history. Yet, the lauded artist who is also known as perhaps the nicest guy in all of Nashville, says he’s as happy with his newly-released album Guitar Slinger as with any project in his career to date.

“It makes it even more special, you know,” Vince said backstage about sharing his 20th Opry Anniversary with his family. “And even more because all these other people that I share this stage with most weekends, they’re family too. It’s not blood, but it really is. That’s the best part of it and the friendship becomes the biggest reason you like being out here.”
For over 20 years, Vince has been a part of the Opry family. “I always loved Little Jimmy Dickens. I Loved his records and loved him. I was showing up on weekends and he invited me out to sing with him on ‘The Bird of Paradise.’ I got a phone call from my dad afterward, and he goes ‘well now you’ve made it. You sang with Little Jimmy Dickens.’ It meant so much to my dad and I didn’t know why. But when my father passed I realized when his brother told me the story that the very first record they had as little boys was Little Jimmy Dickens’ Country Boy, so I found out how deep that connection went,” Vince said.
Among the artists and songs included in the Thanksgiving special are Gill’s “Blue Christmas,” Dierks Bentley’s “Home,” Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You,” Trade Adkins’ “Million Dollar View,” Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home,” and Brad Paisley’s “Winter Wonderland.”
