Phil Stacey
Guest Artist
Phil Stacey grew up in Kentucky, Ohio, and Kansas, moving as led by his father's ministry. Both of Stacey's grandfathers were pastors. The Harlan, Ky., native grew up singing in church, and wrote his first songs at age six.
He later played music and entered contests, first with his siblings as the Stacey Trio and then on his own. He attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., where he was involved in the school's prestigious choir, The Lee Singers. He helped support himself financially in college by working in a recording studio where he learned the basics of making records.
After graduating college, Stacey and his wife moved to Denver, where he served as a music minister. In 2001, Stacey joined the U.S. Navy and became the lead vocalist for the Navy band Southeast. The group's repertoire included covers of songs by Garth Brooks, George Strait, Tim McGraw and others. Stacey was encouraged by friends to audition for American Idol, a decision that would gain him national notoriety.
As a 2007 American Idol Top 5 finalist, Stacey inched closer than ever to his dream of a career in country music. After performing in 55 cities with the American Idol tour, he completed his four-year commitment with the Navy. Stacey then moved his family to Nashville and signed with Lyric Street Records. His debut self-titled album includes the single "If You Didn't Love Me." His sophomore album, Into the Light, debuted in August 2009, further cementing his place among today's brightest new contemporary Christian artists.
