Neal McCoy

Guest Artist

Neal McCoy was born Hubert Neal McGaughey Jr. in Jacksonville, Texas on July 30, 1958 to a father of Irish descent and a Filipino mother.  After putting his voice to professional use in an R&B band, McCoy shifted his attention to country music, playing bars and clubs all over Texas. Country star Janie Fricke just happened to be in the audience at a 1981 talent competition that McCoy won.  Fricke helped him secure a spot as Charley Pride's opening act, a job that lasted for six years.

In 1988, McCoy took a leap of faith and left the comfort of his steady gig in hopes of landing a recording contract.  He released his debut single "That's How Much I Love You."  His debut album, At This Moment, bowed on Atlantic in 1990.  Two years later, Where Forever Begins followed as did 1994's No Doubt About It.  The latter included the title track and "Wink;" both were multi-week chart-topping singles.  The album sold more than a million copies. Over the next five years, McCoy made several trips to the Top 5, and he became a popular touring artist as well, known for his high-energy shows.

In 2005 he released That's Life on 903 Music, a label he co-founded.  He reemerged in the Top 20 with "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On."
