Raul Malo

Guest Artist

Raul Malo has proven to be an ever-expanding musical talent. Born in Miami of Cuban parents, he started playing bass guitar in high school and soon found his way into several small bands. In 1987, he made his first recording, and his song "Paperheart" appeared on the promotional album Unsigned.

Later in the '80s, Malo and high school friend and bass player Robert Reynolds created their own country band, The Mavericks. Aided by Malo’s soaring vocals, The Mavericks became one of the ‘90’s most popular bands. The group won a Grammy® and two Country Music Association Top Vocal Group Awards.

During the late '90s, Malo began doing parallel solo work and completed his first solo tour in the U.K.  By 2000, he was producing musical projects, working with Latin singer Rick Trevino. Malo joined Los Super Seven as lead vocalist and songwriter. Malo's first solo recording, "Bailare (El Merecumbe)," was self-penned in Spanish. In addition, he completed a solo recording of the Bruce Springsteen song "Downbound Train".

Malo’s first solo album, Today, was recorded in both Spanish and English, reflecting calypso, carnival, jazz, salsa, and country influences playing out the theme of universal love. His solo career continued with the albums The Nashville Acoustic Sessions, You're Only Lonely, After Hours, and Lucky One.
