Sam Bush
Guest Artist
Sam Bush was born April 15, 1952 in Bowling Green, Ky. As the founder of the band New Grass Revival, the fiddle and mandolin player helped modernize bluegrass with his unique style. With New Grass Revival, Bush fused bluegrass with jazz, rock 'n' roll and soul.
In the late '80s Bush joined forces with musicians Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, and Edgar Meyer to create the band Strength in Numbers. Following the release of The Telluride Sessions in 1989, the group members went their separate ways. For the next five years, Bush worked with Grand Ole Opry member Emmylous Harris as musical director for her renowned Nash Ramblers acoustic band.
Bush released his first solo album, Late As Usual, on Rounder Records in 1985. He moved to Sugar Hill Records for Glamour & Grits in 1996, King of My World in 2004, and Laps in Seven in 2006.
New Grass Revival reunited on several occasions and released Howlin' at the Moon in 1998 and Ice Caps: Peaks of Telluride in 2000.
In addition to his solo work, Bush is one of Nashville's most sought after session musicians.
