COVER STORY
In Her Own Words: Carrie Underwood
There was a wonderful energy in the Opry House that night! I don’t know how to describe it. Everyone seemed so happy, including myself. We performed “Last Name,” and it was particularly fun to sing! After that, it was back to the dressing room to hang until the next performance. We came back out to do “All American Girl,” and then, it was time for the big moment. Everything that was said and shown was so wonderful! And when Garth Brooks came out and talked to me, it took everything I had not to start sobbing like a crazy woman right there in front of everybody!
Throughout the day I had so many things in my head that I wanted to say once I had the chance and absolutely none of them came out! It’s so difficult to describe feelings when they’re that strong. More than anything I wanted to convey how appreciative I was that the Grand Ole Opry – a well-respected institution and cornerstone of Country Music – asked ME to be an official part of it! I know that I have been so blessed throughout my life and my career, but that moment really took the cake! I didn’t let go of that opry statue for a long while. I didn’t want to. I just want to thank everyone at the Grand Ole Opry for making my night SO special and for inviting me to be a part of the family! My picture is finally up on the wall!!! :)
